Biography

I chose to become a physician due to a positive experience with a physician when I was 15 years old. I had an accident which resulted in the need for orthopedic care. The emergency room (ER) physician who cared for me was sensitive to my being frightened and alone (my parents were both working and it took a while for them to get to the hospital). The ER doc was kind and explained things to me as they happened. He even took the time to tell me what he was looking for on X-ray and how my treatment would proceed. Being from a small town, I had never interacted with a physician on more than a very superficial level. His kindness and skill left me in awe. It was in that moment that I decided I would become a physician. I very much believe in a partnering approach to patient care. I will always provide the patient with options to manage a condition. I firmly believe that patients have the best outcomes when they are empowered in their medical care. Safe treatments and alternatives should always be discussed, and questions answered plainly and frankly. I believe that there is never a bad question. I like to connect with my patients on a personal level-I see them as friends more than acquaintances. I am at the point in my career where I often treat young women that I delivered as babies for gynecologic issues. It is highly gratifying knowing that I have developed a level of trust that continues through generations of women. I enjoy all aspects of obstetric and gynecologic care. I offer obstetric care and delivery for most patients including twins and patients with conditions such as hypertension and gestational diabetes. I also offer a full range of medical and surgical options for treatment of heavy menstrual cycles, fibroids and ovarian cysts. Outside of work, I am an avid sports fan, particularly of college football. I love to read and listen to music. I can often be found working in my yard with my earbuds in on the weekends.

Biography

I chose to become a certified nurse midwife due to a culmination of positive experiences throughout my life. It began in my youth; I am the oldest of six children and grew up loving babies and being fascinated by pregnancy. During college I went to nursing school and was drawn to women’s healthcare. I started my nursing career as a labor and delivery nurse at North Carolina OB/GYN and Midwifery. I loved being at births and was honored to have the privilege of participating in such a momentous event in family’s lives. During this time period, several of my friends delivered with midwives and I was present at their birth’s as a support person (un-official doula). I was so impressed with how the midwives provided excellent, patient-centered care and created a calm environment by their presence. When I became pregnant, I knew I wanted midwifery care. I had a fabulous experience with the Midwives at Womack Army Medical Center. I knew after the birth of my son that someday I wanted to go back to school and become a midwife.

I am strongly committed to providing respectful care that honors the human dignity, individuality, and diversity of each person. I believe that women & their families should be empowered to make fully informed decisions about their bodies & their health through evidence-based education. My desire is to form relationships with my patients to provide holistic, personalized care through all stages of life. I particularly love caring for women in labor and desire to support women in all their birth choices (medicated and un-medicated). I am excited to practice in an office that is committed to providing a collaborative model of care which helps promote the best outcomes for patients.

Outside of work, I enjoy hiking with my husband, son, and our doodle. My favorite pastimes include reading, drinking tea or coffee, running, and practicing yoga. I can often be found in my kitchen whipping up new recipes and experimenting with allergy friendly foods.
