Urinary Tract Infection and Treatment
A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection in any part of the urinary system, including the bladder, urethra, or kidney. UTIs are caused by bacteria that most often come from the digestive tract or rectal area. The standard medical care for a UTI includes taking antibiotics for three to seven days. If your UTI was sexually transmitted, your partner will need to be treated too. If you have recurrent infections, you may be referred to a specialist.Common Vaginal Infections
Vaginal infections, also known as vaginitis, can cause discharge, irritation, and pain during sex and urination. The three most common types of vaginal infections are:- Vaginal yeast infection, also known as vulvovaginal candidiasis, is caused by an infection involving an overgrowth of fungus or yeast.
- Bacterial vaginosis is caused by an overgrowth of certain types of bacteria.
- Trichomoniasis is a sexually transmitted infection caused by a parasite.

Treatment Options
At North Carolina OB/GYN Midwifery Services, we offer a range of treatment options tailored to the specific type and severity of the infection. For UTIs, antibiotics are the most common treatment, prescribed based on the type of bacteria causing the infection. For vaginal infections, treatment can vary; antifungal creams or suppositories are used for yeast infections, while antibiotics are required for bacterial infections like bacterial vaginosis. We also provide advice on preventive care, including hygiene practices and dietary adjustments to help prevent recurrence.Treatment Consultation
Our consultation process begins with a detailed review of your symptoms, medical history, and a physical examination. We may also conduct urine tests for UTIs or swabs for vaginal infections to determine the exact cause of your symptoms. This thorough evaluation helps us develop an effective treatment plan customized to your specific needs. We also discuss preventive measures and answer any questions you might have about your condition or the recommended treatments.Schedule an Appointment
